The potent 328bhp Autodelta 147
GTA AM 3.7 has hit the roads of Hong Kong
Ever since premier global Alfa Romeo design and tuning house Autodelta,
introduced the amazing 328bhp Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 on the prestigious
occasion of the MPH03
Motor Show, held at Earls Court in December 2003, demand for this fully-bespoke,
individually hand-crafted model has been consistently strong. Dubbed by the
hard-to-please maverick television presenter Jeremy Clarkson, as the
"fastest hot hatch, ever", it proved - in front of the always unforgiving
cameras of the BBC TV Top Gear programme - that its outrageous power
output and sublime handling package did indeed combine perfectly to take
accepted "hot hatch" performance to simply another level. Raw, utter aggression
was superbly combined with sublime drivability by Autodelta's engineering team
to create a car that is always suitable for everyday use, a vital requirement
for the London-based firm's ever-growing band of loyal customers who wish to
live the exhilarating Alfa Romeo 'lifestyle' to the maximum at all times.
Earlier last year, the 'rocket' spawned the awesome 400bhp Autodelta 147 GTA AM
3.7 Super, a fitting tribute to one of the most famous V6-engines in the history
of the internal combustion engine, and the ultimate expression of the evocative
GTA brand name.
Last year we were approached by a private
customer based in Hong Kong who wished to commission
a fully-specified Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 model.
The customer flew to our London headquarters to test
drive an example for herself, and mightily impressed
by the car in the flesh, she swiftly gave us the go
ahead.
Usually we will freight in cars from around the
globe for required upgrades to be carried out by our
trained and authorized engineers. However, in this
case - while the car's existing 3.2-litre V6 engine
was shipped to our London HQ to be fully rebuilt to
3.7-litre specification - its final installation was
carried out in Hong Kong by a specialized
high-performance engineering concern working in
close instruction with our own engineers.
All
our existing bespoke model range (based around the
Alfa 147, 156 and GT Coupé) are carefully tailored
to the individual customer's unique requirements, as
well as any road homologation regulations that may
be in force in the applicable market. This Autodelta
147 GTA AM 3.7 was engineered to the full product
specification we have developed and make available. As well as the 328bhp, 3.7-litre
V6 all-alloy Alfa Romeo engine with its revised
camshafts, new lightweight pistons, Ferrari-derived
throttle body, and re-mapped electronics; a new
dynamic suspension package, a larger bore and
free-flow quad-tailpipe exhaust system, and an Autodelta performance clutch have been fitted, while
the list of modifications carried out also includes
fitting an Autodelta limited slip differential,
upgrading the car's braking capability, and finally
clothing it in a full GTA AM body styling kit.
Autodelta's engineers' also had to factor into the
equation Hong Kong's own petroleum quality standards
while re-mapping the electronics, ably assisted by
data logging which had been undertaken by our agent
there on the 3.7-litre V6 engine, while the new
suspension package was fine-tuned to take into
account the country's
road surfaces.
The customer is delighted with the completed
package, and most recently this unique-to-Hong Kong Autodelta 147 GTA AM 3.7 was prominently featured,
on the front cover and as lead story, in Hong Kong's
foremost automotive tuning magazine,
"Option 1.2".
