11.11.2004 AUTODELTA TO PRESENT 650 BHP OF THEIR LATEST ALFA ROMEO ENGINEERING AT THE MPH04 MOTOR SHOW, EARLS COURT, LONDON

Autodelta 156 GTA AM & Autodelta GT Super

650 bhp, that’s the combined power developed by Autodelta’s newest Alfa Romeo-based sports cars, the 328 bhp Autodelta Alfa Romeo 156 GTA Selespeed 3.7 AM (Autodelta Maggiorata) and the 320 bhp Autodelta Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 Super (Supercharged).

London-based design and tuning house Autodelta is to introduce simultaneously both new models at the MPH04 Motor Show (18-21 November, Earls Court, London), chosen as the ideal venue to showcase the results of Autodelta’s well known aspiration to bring Alfa Romeo style and power to the extreme.

The Autodelta 156 GTA AM, based on the highly acclaimed Alfa Romeo 156 GTA, is powered by a 328 bhp 3.7 engine – a bored-out version of the standard 3.2 V6 unit – which made its world-wide debut in the Autodelta 147 3.7 GTA AM at the MPH03 Show last year.

The increase in engine capacity (to 3,750 cc) and power is accompanied by suitable re-mapping of both the engine, which now red-lines at 7,300 rpm, and the Selespeed system, thus further enhancing the model’s sporty character.

Like its smaller sister, the 147 3.7 GTA AM, Autodelta’s 156 GTA AM boasts a Ferrari-derived larger throttle, bespoke stainless exhaust system, manifolds and downpipes, a stronger clutch to cope with the extra power, 260 lb ft of torque at 4,700 rpm, quadruple tailpipes at the back, and custom-built 8.5 x 18” light allow wheels wearing 235/40 R18 tyres.

To help achieve the deadly quick driving response and higher performance levels than the standard model, as it is expected from a true sports saloon, the 156 GTA AM has been equipped with a limited slip differential (with 30% progressive lock), uprated 355 mm front brakes with AP racing 6-pot calipers and sports suspension.

At its world-wide debut, the brand new Autodelta GT 3.2 Super joins Autodelta 156 GTA AM at the MPH04 Show. Based on the very successful Alfa Romeo GT, Autodelta’s 320 bhp sports car’s engine has been endowed with extra power and grunt by the addition of a space-efficient, centrifugal Rotrex supercharger, running its own oil feed system and additional oil cooler independent from the engine, with an intercooler.

Choosing to adopt the Rotrex supercharger is the result of two and a half years of durability and reliability testing of the unit in a wide range of Autodelta Alfa Romeo models. In order to match fuelling and ignition timing, the factory ECU has been remapped, and the installation has inbuilt safety features to control boost levels.

Like the Autodelta 156 3.7 GTA AM, and its smaller sister Autodelta 147 3.7 GTA AM, the newcomer has been fitted with a limited slip differential, to rein in the extra power, and sports suspension with coil over dampers; top speed of 178 mph is easier to achieve with the adoption of a longer sixth gear (which is not an overdrive) than the standard Alfa GT.

Autodelta’s own styling and manufacturing arm Creativestudio, is responsible for the distinctive, overt sporty look of both the 156 GTA AM and the GT Super; in contrast with the factory-built Alfa Romeo 156 GTA, Autodelta’s Alfa 156 GTA AM boasts the more recent Giugiaro-styled front, complemented by a specially designed full bodykit which include front wings, front and rear bumpers, rear wheel arches, door panels and boot spoiler. The GT Super features new front and rear bumpers, discreet rear boot spoiler and a redesigned dual exhaust pipe with a touch of retro feel, which contributes to the GT Super’s unique engine sound.

Autodelta’s 156 GTA AM and GT Super, like all Autodelta models, are strictly customer-built, with their own plaque carrying the serial number.

"After the success enjoyed by the Autodelta Alfa Romeo 147 3.7 GTA - we make two to three new cars to order a month - building its bigger sister felt like a natural progression; by comparison, the Autodelta GT Super is more the result of Autodelta wishing to explore different avenues to enhance both power and performance of an already popular sports car. We remain committed to trying to improve on the sporty brand ‘par excellence’ Alfa Romeo, without betraying its spirit; the public response we got from our presence at the MPH03 Show last year persuaded us to chose the MPH04 this year to launch these two latest models," says Autodelta Managing Director Jano Djelalian.

The Autodelta Alfa Romeo 156 GTA 3.7 AM and Autodelta Alfa Romeo GT Super are shown at the MPH04 Motor Show, MPH Gallery, stands B36 and B37.
